‘The Sun, the Moon, and the Sparrows’ is created from clay reliefs derived from vintage pastry moulds collected from various parts of the world. Each piece acts as a cultural bridge, with intricate textures and forms reflecting the rich tapestry of shared experiences, values, and culinary heritage that unite us. The colours of the work and the Sparrows were inspired by the various traditional Chinese buildings in Singapore, where the birds stood apart from other building elements. The shape is inspired by the Sun, symbolising vitality, and the Moon, symbolising reunion; together, they embody the duality of day and night, while the Sparrows act as messengers and observers of this transition, embodying the spirit of joy and exploration. Together, these elements invite viewers to celebrate the warmth of community and the beauty of understanding our diverse backgrounds.
